MOONSPELL Set Release Date For 'The Antidote'

May 30, 2003

Portugal's MOONSPELL have set a Sept. 29 release date through Century Media Records for their new album, "The Antidote".

The follow-up to 2001's "Darkness And Hope" was recorded at Finnvox Studios in Helsinki, Finland with producer Hiili Hiilesmaa (H.I.M., SENTENCED, AMORPHIS).

The band, who recently parted ways with bassist Sérgio Crestana, utilized the services of AMORPHIS bassist Niclas Etelävuori during the sessions, which have resulted in "ten dark masterpieces . . . [that] will please every fan of classic albums from 'Wolfheart' and 'Irreligious' to their most recent effort, 'Darkness & Hope'," according to an official press release. "The spectrum ranges from highly intensive and atmospheric songs like the title track, 'The Antidote', which surprises with its half-acoustic verses and monster riff-driven chorus line, to sharp metal eruptions like 'The Southern Deathstyle' and 'In And Above Men' — coming along with powerful tribal drums and Fernando [Ribeiro]'s death-growl outbursts. For sure MOONSPELL are also keeping the spirit of classics like 'Opium' alive with new hits like 'Crystal Gazing'. The central point of the album is 'Everything Invaded', a 7-minute exciting opus combining all elements of the album into one brilliant piece: clever arrangements, poetic lyrics, unsuppressed emotions, mighty drums and guitar riffs wide enough for eternity. The lyrical concept of 'The Antidote' is about 'the horror of beauty and the beauty of horror' (to quote the opening line) influenced by classic horror fiction like H.P. Lovecraft."
